Meet the K4
After the success of the larger k-series smoothers, it seemed obvious to look in the other direction – making a smaller, truly one-handed plane. It can be used with 2 hands of course, but I was interested in something that was comfortable in one hand. The height and width of the plane, the length of blade and the position and length of the lever cap and screw became critical. They all needed to work together to form an ergonomic shape that can fit into the palm of your hand without an obvious sharp spot or compromised hand position.
The K4 is starting to nudge towards the scale of instrument makers planes – something I have always been fascinated with. My gut tells me that at some point, a K3 will be attempted.
