Meet the XSNo. 4
This was the first ‘new’ plane I designed – this size didn’t exist, and while it is not a wild departure design wise, its success is what gave me the courage to continue to explore plane design, and ultimately, led to the K13.
I have a complicated friendship with block planes. I love their small nimble size, but I found my hands would get a little cramped trying to grip such a squat plane. So I set out to make a small, bevel down smoother. The extra height in the rear infill helps fill out your hand and gives good reference for holding the plane aplomb and square to the work. I suspect I have made more XSNo.4’s than any other model - a fantastic little plane.
